Risk Management

At Northern Capital, we will be a valuable asset – and a partner – to your financial department. To provide certainty that an unexpected loss will not impair your assets, our first priority is to manage your loss exposure. We use flowcharting and hazard-coverage checklists to identify and then treat loss exposures.

We stand by the following principles of risk management:

• Avoid. This option should be considered for risks that can be completely avoided.
• Transfer. This option should be considered for risks that can be contractually transferred to a third party.
• Reduce. Risks that cannot be avoided or transferred can be reduced through the use of loss prevention and control techniques.
• Assume. We use deductibles for risks that cannot cause significant loss and which can be assumed in your day-to-day cash flow. Deductibles can also be used to reduce the cost of insurance for coverages which cannot be purchased at a reasonable cost.
• Insure. Risks which are capable of inflecting serious financial loss should be insured.

Our goal is simple: To assist you in analyzing exposures, insurance contracts, losses and financial agreements to project future liabilities.

Claim Management

Our goals for claims management:

• Assist clients with the claims review process to ensure timely, fair settlements. Because we work directly for our clients we do not hesitate to intervene on your behalf if the need arises.
• Analyze loss runs from the insurance company to determine proper reserves and look for loss trends. This is a particularly important service for developing a correct experience modification factor. It also helps us determine possible return premiums if you are under a loss sensitive plan.
• Breakdown company loss runs when your needs require it. Losses may be broken down by location, department, or other categories.
• Develop and implement a return-to-work program. An effective return-to-work program will help manage and reduce claim cost.
• Contract with a primary medical provider for treating injured employees.
• Maintain relationships with medical case management companies to make sure workers' compensations claims are handled properly. These independent companies provide services such as medical bill review and medical case management, on a fee basis.
• Coordinate and attend meetings with insurance company claims personnel as necessary.

Loss Control

Our own in-house loss control engineer to assist you on a fee basis in a number of areas. Services offered:

• Addressing loss reduction and prevention concerns.
• Monitoring compliance with OSHA and environmental laws.
• Assisting you in identifying unsafe acts and conditions.
• Developing or reviewing formal loss control programs for all phases of your operation. We have developed programs in the following areas for our clients:

• Conducting training programs for management and employees on safety issues.
• Assisting with the presentation of your account to insurance carriers. Often insurance companies will offer better pricing if professional loss control services are being provided.
• Providing extensive resources of written material and videos to compliment our clients' loss control efforts.

Contract Review

We are committed to reviewing leases and supplier contracts to determine assumption of possible risks. You may be assuming risks for which you are not insured properly or at all. And it's our job to find and minimize those risks.

• Planning. We will assist in the planning process of new ventures and counsel you on inherent risks.
• Written Service Agreements. We will provide with our proposal a detailed written service agreement signed by corporate management as a guarantee that services promised will be delivered.
• Annual review. We have industry-specific checklists to help you understand your exposures and insurance needs. These annual reviews are important to assure that you maintain proper coverage and retentions.
• Negotiations. We will negotiate terms and conditions with our insurance carriers on your behalf.
• Preferred contracts. We have numerous preferred contracts among our carriers.
• Alternatives. We have access to captive insurance, self-insurance and large deductible programs.
• Complete insurance services. We offer personal insurance protection including home, life, and auto. In addition we offer complete corporate benefit programs including group medical, group life, disability, and financial planning.
